Running Naked !

Image
Yesterday I announced the the KOK's that I would be running the Judge 6K naked. By naked I meant I was going to leave my smartphone with it's running app in my car, not have it strapped to my arm advising me of every kilometer done, telling me my average speed and generally annoying me. I really enjoyed the peace and tranquility and ran my best run yet. http://womensrunning.competitor.com/2013/01/training-tips/naked-running_9269 There's alot to be said for nudity. This, of course got us to talking about actual naked running and wondering if naked runs exist and the difficulties we larger ladies would have. I set my mind to finding out all I could. It appears there is quite a naked running following, particularly, of course, in the old USA. The favourite one is the Caliente Dare to Bare 5k , which has the added advantage of a day long pool party to help you recover. I am fairly confident that alot of cooling down takes place in that pool, but maybe also a little hottin

What a difference a year makes ! ( A little Easter lesson ......or 12)

One year ago on Easter Saturday I was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and I was septic......NOT funny ! At exactly this time I was heading to Doc On Call and was assessed by a very hot young doctor, who I thought was a bit thick when he suggested I go to the Emergency Department. Turns out he wasn't that thick...lesson 1. Never judge a book by it's cover...and there's nothing like a hot doctor ! ( No, PH I am not referring to you !) The following 8 weeks of recovery made me realise, that in the scheme of things, all that matters is health, family and love.Lesson 2. Lesson 3. No one is so important that the world will stop if they climb off for a while...not even Barrack Obama....boy I wish I had been the one he tangoed with ... I decided ,during my recuperation, that the time had come to devote more attention to myself, the person I was inclined to ignore in the midst of helping everyone else out and making sure everything got done, and to my absolute horror and ama

I got to thinking about my fellow KOK's and how well we get on, how much we enjoy each others company, how supportive we are to each other, yet all different. I realised that, although different, we have traits which compliment each other. It got me to pondering that we are like different animals and the sight of a Chihuahua in a tutu this morning made me realise just what we would be if we were, in fact, doggies. Transformation Tracey for instance is a Golden Retriever - Reliable, Kind, Friendly and Trustworthy Trotting Teresa is a Terrier - Small, Active, Wiry and Fearless Fluffy Duffy is a silky elegant Afghan Hound, Happy Dignified and Independent Twinkletoes is the Chihuahua of the bunch - Lively, Devoted, Courageous and Quick ..she will be once the cast is off ! Mighty Martha is a Schnauzer -Spirited, Fearless and apparently Trainable ? Shut that door behind you ! M.I.L.F. is a Cocker Spaniel - Playful, Faithful, Affectionate and Quiet...sometimes ! This morning, 7 of the KOK's took to the streets of Carrickmacross for the 5k in aid of SOSAD. We arrived an hour early to register, took our selfies with our Paddies day hats on and then warmed up around the park. Following our stretches, toilet visits and chatting we lined up and took off to the tunes of Rocky "Eye of the Tiger". The girls shot off at a great pace, but my poor asthmatic lungs did not like the cool morning air, so it took quite a while before I got into it and managed a sentence.Long hills were included in the run, but we loved the downhill which followed on both occasions and were actually well fit to sprint to the finish, having thought half way in I was actually going to collapse. The KOK's decided that this was in fact a great 5 k route, but it soon became a fantastic 5k route, when we saw the refreshments inside the local hall. What a feast ! We first our hot cup of tea and then proceeded up the trestle tables to find home made granola bars, hom

So the lovely messages started arriving after my hosting of the, post BFM run, lunch on Sunday. Some lovely photos of the KOK's were shared as were photos of the food...we love our food ! My lemon cake went down a treat as always...I am somewhat renowned for it, but I did admit to the girlies that time had been short, so I had used a Betty Crocker lemon icing on my home made Delia Smith All in One cake mixture. I gave due praise to my youngest son for cracking the eggs and placing the mini eggs so perfectly on top and was rightly smug about my efforts for the KOK's first visit. What a lovely day and such lovely messages.....until ! Flyer Maguire had missed lunch as her little munchkin was due to have her tonsils out, so Flyer took her to the zoo ahead of her stressful event. On arriving home that evening, Flyer took to messenger to catch up on all the days activities and happened to say she would have loved a bit of cake...well she tried to but damn autocorrect called it "

Sunday Funday

Today saw the inaugural bigfoodiemama "fun" run, or the Larathon as Transformation Tracey christened it. We met at 11.45 at a local football pitch, warmed up in the 12 degree heat and set off along the country roads in our KOK t shirts, as admission to my fun run involved a strict dress code. GASP had advised me that there was a "couple of hills" on the route, but apparently hills are totally different to "humps and bumps" of which there were quite a few ! Now some of the Krill Oil Krazies had the lovely experience of the tummy bug during the week so only 8 ran, of which a couple were still delicate. The heat did not help the dehydration and there were a few wee walkies, where we should have been running, but we completed 8.3 km in total, so were delighted with ourselves. Then it was back to my house for the lunch...oh yes ! The KOK's know how to do lunch. Everyone brought along something , which when added together turned into a feast of both savoury

This week, for reasons which will soon become apparent, I have had cars on my mind. After some deep thinking, in depth researching and soul searching, I looked back over my history with the automobile and understood why I struggle so much with this particular aspect of my life. Car 1. The understated, totally reliable, Vauxhall Nova in petrol blue, sold to me, by monthly instalments ( !) to me by one of my best friends....the incredibly generous and fabulous Polly Deep Pockets. I am forever grateful to her for starting me on a road, I could not afford at that time...not sure I am any better off now !It got stolen twice and written off the second time. Car 2. The gorgeous little white Mazda I bought in Drogheda off a mechanic's wife. I loved that little sporty hatchback and it gave me no trouble. Off I headed with GASP for our first foreign holiday, parking it inside the 8 foot metal gates of the Gate Lodge I inhabited. GASP suggested I should park it further back, but I refuse
