10 years of blogging...what a way to celebrate !
My blog is 10 years old since the 29th of October !!! I am amazed, delighted and surprised....and I am back !!! Yes, I have been absent but am back at a beautiful new writing desk, which I hope will inspire many blogs to come. Sooooo, what have I been up to ? Just in case you think I have failed you as readers with my infrequent posts, I thought I might return by giving you a flavour of what the past 2 months alone have involved and maybe, just maybe you might forgive me for my being AWOL. Earlier this year, I happily volunteered to be on the organising committee of my professions ( not what you might think !) national conference. I put November 8th and 9th in my diary, happy there was no conflict in my schedule. In the summer The Mad One asked if I would join my old Strictly buddies in a nearby GAA clubs Oscars event. I immediately agreed as the football season would be coming to an end so my taxi duties would ease and I love a bit of fun. The night of November 9th was the red carpet night, but I had decided I could probably miss that. Three weeks later, my own local GAA club approached me to ask if I would take part in their Oscars and although slightly concerned I had alot on, could not turn them down for a rival counties club, so hesitantly agreed .
I have spent the last 2 months being the consummate medical professional , evenings as the big, blonde, busty Callahan in Police Academy and weekends as the disapproving, stern Reverend Mother in Sister Act......I kid you not. They then announced when I would be filming for Sister Act....yes, you guessed it Sunday November 10th .....eeek ! I may have been guilty of over committing previously but this broke even my previous records ! One moment I was having a deep intellectual conversation ( yes I am capable!) with an internationally renowned medical speaker, the next I was frowning down on our Whoopi Goldberg , before wrestling a recruit to the ground and hopping on him as Callahan ! Really, very aspect of my personality had a role this past month. One blog simply cannot do justice to these events so this is the first of 3 , as I have taken today off work in order that I recover fully from a weekend of work, glamour, fun, laughter, friendship, wine, dancing, intellectual conversations ( YES, I AM CAPABLE) costume changes, sandwiches, cocktail sausages, pizza and lots of coffee ! At aged nearly 50 though, I also made sure there was sleep and water, hence my ability to type this morning. PS. While all this was going on, my house was being renovated and I have major building work going on at work ......not sure how I am alive but I am, thanks to the kindness and generosity of those who picked me up, literally and figuratively, who made me cups of tea, made me laugh, understood when I had to decline other things, carried the can , helped with school runs and didn't add to my busyness. The biggest thanks, without doubt, has to go GASP ( Gorgeous, Adorable, Suffering and Patient ) who is the reason I can take on these professional and personal roles. Behind this strong busy woman is a man who kept the show on the road, did the dishes, the washing, the training matches and had a dinner waiting for me when I most needed it. The conference is over, Police Academy has been shown ( and yes, of course, I was there with bells on !) and having shot Sister Act yesterday I have washed and hung up my habit. But this is not the end...it's only the beginning !!!
