Premature climax ? and a Call to Arms

" I really hope Gentle Gary finishes us off" uttered one of the Marathon Mary's last Wednesday....you and me both girlfriend, and last night he did just that ! In his lovely bobble hat, he cajoled, encouraged and urged the Marathon Mary's to the 30 minute run....YES... 30 MINUTES !!!!!!Only Gentle Gary could have got me there, slowly, kindly building up to this fantastic climax....of running !! I was so delighted I gasped " I love you Gary" as he blew his final whistle, a sound I had been waiting for....for about 29 minutes at that stage. What a high ! I felt great, was delighted I had taken the decision to rest ( ie. drink wine, bake cakes, throw birthday parties and sleep) for the past few days in preparation for this. It was so worth it. Of course, my excitement is a little premature , as the main event is actually on Saturday ...the 5 K. Sonia O'Sullivan is coming ! She has heard there is competition for her crown no doubt . Gentle suggested strongly last night that we DO NOT try out the route beforehand....this makes me think it is actually a very challenging course, especially " heart attack hill" up by my mother BMM's house. I have asked GASP and my two boys to be standing there as I reckon that is when I will need the shouts of " Dig In, You can do it" and the likes. I am nervous, excited and dubious in equal measure. I can't wait and yet don't want it to be over. I really really want a medal, as at 45 years of age I have never won or got a medal for anything. I advised a friend of mine of this fact and she advised me that she had only one medal to her name....for the " slow bicycle race" ! I think there are only medals for Juveniles so reckon I may have to head down to Wee County Trophies and buy my own next week, should I get over the line.
My t shirt is ordered, my socks soft and ready, my full length leggings are lying out beside the half ones.... weather will decide which ones make it. I have bought a new light waterproof jacket ( no more Elvery's poncho for me !) .My sports bra will be donned over my underwired one, to keep the puppies in check for 5 K. I will take my place proudly beside the Marathon Mary's, stand tall with my new friends, will push out my chest if I see Gentle Gary with the logs on his back, will hope that Feline Foggy utters his gentle words of encouragement as I jog along. I will eye the rump of the Golfing Rumpsteak, watch the Silver Fox sail past me,will marvel at Macho Malone, will pray Little Big Horn pulls it out, will flirt with Dusky Digger and pray that Mr Boot Camp...the b*****d feels some pain .
Tonight , our final official "run" sees us hit the pitch above " at the Mary's" to be followed by Tea and Sangidges for our " Ask the Expert" session with Rapid Ronan, Jolly Joan and Gentle Gary. Not sure if I actually have any questions apart from enquiring for Gentle Gary's phone number and Rapid Ronan's address ! So come on ladies, get down to the pitch, even if you only made a few sessions. Join the ranks of the newly fit, run around the pitch and then do a recce on the bar area for the party Saturday night. Let's see the roads around Ardee glow luminous yellow with our t shirts and bright red with our faces as we take on the Seamie Weldon Memorial Run this Saturday..BRING IT ON !!!!!!!
