Dangerous Abbreviations Part 3 - OT, RTE and TV
Apologies for the delay in my trilogy but the past week has been one of fractured ankles, chest pains, head injuries, calf strains, car trouble and the general mayhem, known as "life" involving those I know and love. Thankfully, all who were involved are doing well, so I can return to my musings safe in the knowledge that I am not meant to be attending to anyone.
Right...back to Saturday February 20th. The Krill Oil Krazies were near demented with excitement as they boarded Chicken Rooney's minibus for the Operation Transformation 5k in the Phoenix Park. Our matching white t shirts were pristine and our KOK's were covered by our race numbers. Large bunches of bananas were passed around the bus, as was anti inflammatory gel and a blow up male doll....yes...I know ! We giggled, laughed and near wet ourselves with the hilarity on the way up and arrived, high as kites, to take part in the biggest televised fitness event of the year. Of course, the fact that RTE wanted to meet us only heightened the mood and off we went to meet the camera crew at the registration desk. We were lined up, all 11 of us with our backs to camera and our nick names on show, before we turned to camera and shouted " We are the Krill Oil Krazies" . TV done, we headed off to the tent to have our photos taken with Dr. Ciara, Aoife and Dr. Eddie. We scared the life out of them, I reckon. Swivelling Sharon will most likely now have to have her name changed to Stalker Sharon, as one by one, she hunted down and had a photo taken with each leader, last years leaders, Ray D'Arcy and Kathryn Thomas ! We went to the loo, warmed up, drank more water and then it was time for the off. The weather was cold and wet but the spirits were not dampened and we enjoyed the run, the hard part not being the hill but the 4k mark, where we walked a little and then ran on home, me crossing the line hand in hand with Flyer Maguire, Might Martha and Transformation Tracey.
One by one we crossed the line and, with delight, were filmed again as a group, now red faced and sweaty but happy out. Off we went for a cup of tea, which was much needed in the driving rain which had started and against our egotistical judgement, turned down an opportunity to be interviewed on RTE Radio 2 with Louise Mc Sharry as we were frozen and already dreaming of the dinner in Sizzlers, back home. The fact that we had Fluffy Duffy on the bus, meant that our order was phoned through and our return home saw the immediate delivery of 6 Slimming World breakfasts and 5 large bowls of pasta. Heaven !
Wednesday night, amid frantic FB messenger messages, we sat down to watch ourselves on TV.....afraid the KOK's only made it to the cutting room floor, apart from Swivelling Sharon and Kamakaze Kerr, shown crossing the line in their glory. We were sorry we turned down the radio as apparently we are not pretty enough for TV ! Didn't matter though as we got so much joy from the event, are now totally buoyed up for our Boyne 10k in May and reminded of why we do this , for our Health, our Heads and our Hearts. Thursdays OT programme brought home to us how much can be gained from the simple act of exercise and I bawled for the whole catwalk show, so proud to have had the smallest connection, to the best thing this little country has ever done. Well done leaders, well done Ireland and well done the KOK's !
