The PMS Piriformis Update

Image
So, I thought I should let you know how both I and my buttock, are feeling this week...the week of the Boyne 10k ! The pain in the ass has eased considerably thanks to Uma Thurman my Physiotherapist, some vigorous rubbing of Voltarol gel into my right butt cheek ( self administered ), some anti inflammatories, foam rolling and stretching...you can't say I am not committed.....but certainly should be ! As the other KOK's went off to Dublin to do the 1916 5k run, I took to my local country roads and, with only Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift for company, completed 9km on my own !!!! I could not believe it and was delighted, and felt slightly more ready for the big 10k than I had previously. The butt survived the run and the anticipated twinge the following morning did not materialise...happy days ! I am nervous, excited, determined and hopeful for Sunday and keep imagining crossing the finish line...fingers crossed I will do just that, head held high, legs under me and right buttoc...

I am what I feel !!

This weekend I have a pain in the ass and I am a pain in the ass. I am blessed with PMT and PS...yes the deadly, rarely simultaneously occurring, Pre Menstrual Tension and Piriformis Syndrome. PMT is the cute abbreviation for Oestrogen Induced Manic Depressive Bipolar Psychotic Syndrome and PS Piriformis Syndrome....an actual excruciating pain in the middle of your buttock...I kid you not. Now the combination of both is actually deadly...for all those within a 10 foot radius, as the PMS wants you to be left alone to sit in peace, but the PS makes sitting very uncomfortable and causes you to leap up clutching your buttock like a mad woman, making your family flee for cover in case you have weapon down your pants like in the westerns. Poor GASP is moving quietly around the house , trying to blend in with walls and furniture since I advised him that this weekend would be fraught with hormonal highs and lows, to which he bravely replied " Sure I thought you were nearly dried up at th...

Really Personal Training

Image
So the KOK's have split themselves among 3 different men...Palpitations Piaras, Rapid Ronan and my personal favourite Gentle Gary . Apparently the KOK's feel the need to supplement their running with torture, humiliation and pain...and they like it ! I get snippets of what goes on, while out with them , on the nights they can actually place one foot in front of the other, but have serious concerns in relation to what exactly is going on. Apparently the Gentle Gary girls have " given their bodies over to him" for an 8 week period and there has been mention of strap ons ???? Palpitations Piaras has made 3 of the KOKs legs go to jelly and although it is presumed that he said was "nice reps" one member took it as " nice ass" and has a smile on her face ever since. Poor Rapid Ronan has had his knob broken off repeatedly by the KOK who goes spinning. She also happened to casually mention that a couple of KOK's were fit to go for a light run after t...

Running Naked !

Image
Yesterday I announced the the KOK's that I would be running the Judge 6K naked. By naked I meant I was going to leave my smartphone with it's running app in my car, not have it strapped to my arm advising me of every kilometer done, telling me my average speed and generally annoying me. I really enjoyed the peace and tranquility and ran my best run yet. http://womensrunning.competitor.com/2013/01/training-tips/naked-running_9269 There's alot to be said for nudity. This, of course got us to talking about actual naked running and wondering if naked runs exist and the difficulties we larger ladies would have. I set my mind to finding out all I could. It appears there is quite a naked running following, particularly, of course, in the old USA. The favourite one is the Caliente Dare to Bare 5k , which has the added advantage of a day long pool party to help you recover. I am fairly confident that alot of cooling down takes place in that pool, but maybe also a little hottin...

What a difference a year makes ! ( A little Easter lesson ......or 12)

One year ago on Easter Saturday I was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and I was septic......NOT funny ! At exactly this time I was heading to Doc On Call and was assessed by a very hot young doctor, who I thought was a bit thick when he suggested I go to the Emergency Department. Turns out he wasn't that thick...lesson 1. Never judge a book by it's cover...and there's nothing like a hot doctor ! ( No, PH I am not referring to you !) The following 8 weeks of recovery made me realise, that in the scheme of things, all that matters is health, family and love.Lesson 2. Lesson 3. No one is so important that the world will stop if they climb off for a while...not even Barrack Obama....boy I wish I had been the one he tangoed with ... I decided ,during my recuperation, that the time had come to devote more attention to myself, the person I was inclined to ignore in the midst of helping everyone else out and making sure everything got done, and to my absolute horror and ama...

Who let the dogs out ?

I got to thinking about my fellow KOK's and how well we get on, how much we enjoy each others company, how supportive we are to each other, yet all different. I realised that, although different, we have traits which compliment each other. It got me to pondering that we are like different animals and the sight of a Chihuahua in a tutu this morning made me realise just what we would be if we were, in fact, doggies. Transformation Tracey for instance is a Golden Retriever - Reliable, Kind, Friendly and Trustworthy Trotting Teresa is a Terrier - Small, Active, Wiry and Fearless Fluffy Duffy is a silky elegant Afghan Hound, Happy Dignified and Independent Twinkletoes is the Chihuahua of the bunch - Lively, Devoted, Courageous and Quick ..she will be once the cast is off ! Mighty Martha is a Schnauzer -Spirited, Fearless and apparently Trainable ? Shut that door behind you ! M.I.L.F. is a Cocker Spaniel - Playful, Faithful, Affectionate and Quiet...sometimes ! Cantering Clare is ...

This morning, 7 of the KOK's took to the streets of Carrickmacross for the 5k in aid of SOSAD. We arrived an hour early to register, took our selfies with our Paddies day hats on and then warmed up around the park. Following our stretches, toilet visits and chatting we lined up and took off to the tunes of Rocky "Eye of the Tiger". The girls shot off at a great pace, but my poor asthmatic lungs did not like the cool morning air, so it took quite a while before I got into it and managed a sentence.Long hills were included in the run, but we loved the downhill which followed on both occasions and were actually well fit to sprint to the finish, having thought half way in I was actually going to collapse. The KOK's decided that this was in fact a great 5 k route, but it soon became a fantastic 5k route, when we saw the refreshments inside the local hall. What a feast ! We first our hot cup of tea and then proceeded up the trestle tables to find home made granola bars, hom...
