The PMS Piriformis Update
So, I thought I should let you know how both I and my buttock, are feeling this week...the week of the Boyne 10k ! The pain in the ass has eased considerably thanks to Uma Thurman my Physiotherapist, some vigorous rubbing of Voltarol gel into my right butt cheek ( self administered ), some anti inflammatories, foam rolling and stretching...you can't say I am not committed.....but certainly should be ! As the other KOK's went off to Dublin to do the 1916 5k run, I took to my local country roads and, with only Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift for company, completed 9km on my own !!!! I could not believe it and was delighted, and felt slightly more ready for the big 10k than I had previously. The butt survived the run and the anticipated twinge the following morning did not materialise...happy days !
I am nervous, excited, determined and hopeful for Sunday and keep imagining crossing the finish line...fingers crossed I will do just that, head held high, legs under me and right buttock spasm free.
The whole being a pain in the ass is an entirely different matter in it's progress. I am still a pain in the ass and seem to be displaying all 34 of the peri menopausal signs Trotting Teresa put up on Messenger today. It was greeted with unsympathetic guffaws of laughter from the two under 40 year old members of the group, who were soon put in their place when we threatened to remove all Krill Oil from the vicinity when their day came, and suggested that they were already displaying some symptoms ! I read the article in detail and the recommendations to eat wholemeal/brown, veg/oily fish etc....avoiding caffeine and alcohol....2 peri menopausal staples ! Other advice I knew to be of value was that of regular exercise. As we took off last night for our last 5k, I was chosen to lead the bunch, NOT because I am the fastest pace setter, but entirely the opposite, I am slow and steady, therefore alot less likely to expend all my energy too soon in a 10 K event. The other KOK's get a bit excited and are inclined to shoot off too early.....no life surprises there ! I took my role quite seriously and will do on Sunday, in an effort to get us all over that finish line together and in one piece. I now know that the lead position is a great one as nothing will inspire you to keep going more than the giggles, chat and groans of a group of like minded, hormonally challenged , mildly psychiatric, occasionally neurotic, hilarious, optimistic and determined women. Bring it on !!!
