BMM has guests arriving over from the USA next week and they plan to do a tour of Ireland in a week.Only people from a place as big as America would contemplate going from Meath to Kilkenny,to Kinsale, To Kenmare, to Liscannor, to Galway, to Sligo and to Donegal and back to Meath in 7 days. What makes this even more of a feat is that the Americans ( the 3 of them) have an average age of 80 something....fantastic! The Babe in the Chanel Suit ( Bics)is one of the most amazing women I have ever met.She is a petite blonde dynamo and arrives over every couple of years loaded down with gifts for every one of the children in BMM's extended family....about 32 !It is impossible to beat her to a bill in a restaurant as she has usually sweet talked the Maitre D' before you even get to the table. She never had any children, which saddened her greatly and she would have made the most wonderful mother. When I last dropped her back at the airport two years ago for her flight home, she begged me to have another baby so the eldest son would not be an only child. She told me not to phone her until I was announcing I was pregnant ! I took her advice so seriously I got pregnant and phoned her and you would think she had won the lotto. When I got married she asked me if I had all the componants for the something old, new , borrowed and blue. I didn't have anything blue so she asked if I would consider wearing a little ring of hers for the day. It turned out to be the most magnificent Topaz surrounded by diamonds and I wore it with delight. The following day I handed her back the ring, only for her to give it straight back to me saying "keep it honey". I think of her every time I wear it... on special occasions. She is truly like a grandmother to me and considers us her family. Her true age is still uncertain as for many years her date of birth was incorrect on her passport and drivers license...on purpose ! September 11th ruined it all for her because everyones ID had to be checked and she very reluctantly put on the real date...what a lady ! She is revolted by gravestones stating birth and death dates as she feels a womans age shoulg go to the grave with her.I can't wait to see her before she "does Ireland".
