And I said the Kiwis were tight !
It's a very exciting week this week, as it sees the start of the Taste of Dublin Festival, which, in it's 5th year, just gets better and better and bigger. Year one , mid Celtic Tiger, we saw this advertised and we great glee purchased three VIP tickets, for myself, Big Mamas Mama and the Mad One. On the day, one of the Mad Ones brood got sick so BMM and I were forced to attend without her, but with her compliment of Florins ( the currency they use). We ate and drank our way around Dublin castle before hitting the VIP area for a cocktail and glass of bubbly each and then another due to the fact that we had the Mad Ones Ticket! Now we did talk about her and say how much she would have liked it and we did bring her home a goodie bag and some Gluten Free bread for the Spud Farmer, but for that day she was the Mad Jealous One. Year 2 saw the Mad One join us but on this occasion we only purchased mid rabge priced tickets, and then, of course bought more Florins by the tonne when we ran out. We stuck to this policy for year three and then a fatal thing happened....for year 4 we got complimentary tickets ! Bad enough that but when we entered the Iveagh Gardens we noted the Jacobs Creek stand, a brand which just happens to be part of the Ambassadrice's company, entitling us ( or so it turned out) to numerous refills....completely free !!!!We got free samples of pasta sauces and jam from the Real Irish Food Company also.....it was fab !Unfortunately, this has turned us into a pack of scabs. This year we have prostituted ourselves to various companies in the hope of complimentary passes.....it is not proving easy ! We have collected the vouchers in the Irish Independent for the free drinks, one for wine, one for Prosecco and one for a bottle of Bulmers Berries. We will of course head straight for the Jacobs Creek bar again like the tight fisted recessionistas that we have become. It is ladies day on Friday so although we are trying be cheap, we will of course dress as if we are loaded and our sunglasses will add to our sense of mystery.....truthfully they will prevent others from spotting the desperation in our eyes ! Should one of us win the Best Dressed Lady competition we will be truly quids in ! I am proud to be a foodie but lets face facts it's not cheap.......
