Dry.....bone dry !

So, on the last day of the year, I made the decision to go "On the Dry" for January. If you think this was some resolution, health kick or weight loss plan, you would be wrong. It was a decision made early in the morning, where the consumption of Dingle Gin and tonic followed by some excellent red wine, in the company of some wonderful equally drinking girlies, had led me to spend December 31st in a state known to most as "hungover". At 46 years of age, this infrequent occurrence reminds me of my frailty and the fact that my whole body gets a hangover now, not just the head of my twenties or the head and stomach of my thirties. The FA, who had attended the event the night before and slept over, was the first to suggest it, having successfully manged it before, so I declared my intention to join her, proud of myself and, in case of any wobbling later, posted it on Facebook to ensure my compliance. I am not a quitter ! On New Years Day, as we all headed off to the panto, it seemed like the best decision ever.
Last weekend, I was due to host a diner party in my own home and felt very confident that it would be a doddle. I had forgotten about that 10 minutes before your guests arrive, when that glass of red just calms you, ensuring the presence of a smiling relaxed hostess. I tried a non alcoholic Erdinger....it did not have the same effect ! I persevered however and had an entirely enjoyable evening and an even more enjoyable morning after. GASP thinks this Dry January is a great idea as he has reaped the rewards of a woman high on the success of an evening but able to stay awake to finish it off ! Ahem. (The biggest laugh of the night was when one guest asked if I was giving up drink forever)

It appears I am one of only a few who managed the hurdle of the first weekend, 3 of my nearest and dearest falling....including the FA ! This Saturday night sees another test as the KOK's Christmas party takes place in Nosh...now this will be tough. My only consolation is that I will have well and truly earned the Oreo Cheesecake dessert and I will also be able to remember everything...the blog will write itself ! I have another dinner party to host but have ensured it is not until February 4th so that I will be able to thoroughly participate. I found an article which advised of the different types of people who go off the booze for January ....as I am counting each day as it passes, I think I qualify as " The Regretful" but will see this month out...my own little test of will.

Mind you in 2018 ....
