The Mad Ones Baby Shower
So last night the Caribbean Queen had the generosity to host ( in her MTV cribs style house) a baby shower for the Mad One. A great gang of women gathered, the Stunner, Maxi, Stage School Mum, the Culchie Dub, Andie Mc Dowell, BMM, the Mad Ones MIL and the Caribbean Queen Mother. The Mad Ones daughter got to come along to the girls evening much to her delight and designed a special baby shower card, ie. a picture of her mother in the shower with her head poking above the door and her bump poking out the side !She had announced at school earlier that she was going to a baby shower, which her friends took to mean that her mother was going to give birth that evening in the Caribbean Queens bathroom....thankfully this was not the case. The food was a delight, warm salsa or crab dip, guacamole, sour cream or a heavenly combination of roasted figs, tossed in balsamic vinegar and topped with crumbled goats cheese ! We overdid it a bit on the starters but still managed to devour the stuffed breasts of chicken with salad and Maxi's bacon, onion and garlic potatoes. To finish off there were Nigellas brownies from yours truly, BMM's passion fruit dessert from Georg Heise in Slane and the Mad One's MIL had brought a Black Forest Gateaux.......fantastic !The conversation dropped to it's usual gutter level thereafter and numerous very suspect topics....none of which I can blog....caused alot of laughter. My allergies to animals was one of the topics and the room went somewhat when I said that I fantasised about going to bed with a big dog. This was taken to be some warped sexual thing until I explained that , due to my allergies, I could not pat a dog but would love to know how it feels to give a hug to a Great Dane ( dog that is.....mind you, I would not be adverse to the other type either !)I do have similar thoughts about tigers, by the way.
YWML joined us after his school Board of Management meeting and very kindly offered himself as my canine companion due to his wealth of body hair. He proceeded to get hos stomach out much to the delight of the mildly inebriated crowd.
Now there was one person there I have not mentioned. It is rare I meet someone for whom I cannot very quickly come up with a blog nickname but I was stumped on meeting the Caribbean Queen's sister. There are times in life when you meet a person, whom you automatically really like. This was one of those moments. She hails from Wexford so of course the obvious name was the Wexford Queen, in reference to their new spuds, but I don't think it captures her. I am choosing to call her Sunshine, not only because she hails from the sunny south east but because she has a lovely bright disposition and brings light to a room.I can't be the only one who thought this as following her first meeting with the gang, was invited to join us in Paris in April to celebrate the 40th's.....I can't remember if this was before or after we had all invited ourselves to her home in Ballycanoo.
