Blogs, Birthdays and Bingo.
Just after I started this blog 9 years ago on October 29th, I headed to my bed, my waters broke and right about now my second son arrived into the world, kicking and screaming....which he continued to do for about 2 and a half years. Last night he slept from 10.00 pm until 8.30 this morning....phew ! I am older, wiser ?? a bit less energetic but happy with my lot. We have had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend which involved a very good Italian ( dinner not lover ! ) in Rosso Carpaccio, where I lovingly gazed at GASP , listening to the strains of romantic music over an excellent Quatro Stagioni. The complimentary Limoncello brought me back to sunny days in Sorrento and Verona and I thoroughly enjoyed our rare date night. Of course, we spoke about the two boys and boring middle aged topics but at least we were alone to do so without FIFA 19 or Fortnite in the background. We headed to a 60th and enjoyed a few drinks with relatives and locals, the birthday boy ecstatic that his long awaited retirement was kicking in and he could not take the grin off his face. May he live long to enjoy it. Sunday saw the month memory mass for GASP's uncle and then BMM and I headed to the local point to point with eldest son, who I gave €10 to advising him not to buy cigarettes or alcohol or drugs...I forgot gambling so he put his first fiver bet on a horse and thankfully lost ! The horse came 3rd so he got a lecture from his Nana BMM on the merits of the €1 each way bet...she decided to teach him fist hand by approaching a bookie and asking for a €1 each way bet on "Stetsons and Stilettos" in the next race ...this went awry as there were only 3 horses running so yet again a bet was placed on the horses nose, which locally was well behind the nose of the first horse !
Yesterday we took our annual Halloween trip to the Botanic Gardens. On approaching the statue of Socrates, the boys aunt asked them who Socrates was, to which their cousin answered " a defender for Arsenal" ! This is, in fact, true ! Keen not to prevent development of a gambling habit in my eldest we headed off to the local GAA club last night for Bingo. Only GASP won anything, to my delight again, as I indicated to eldest son that he had now lost 3 times in 24 hours...his career is over !Last night as I tucked myself into bed I remembered doing exactly that 9 years ago and thought about what I wanted most back then...a healthy second child and to write a book.....as my youngest is now sitting in front of me contemplating his trip to Smyth's and this is blog number 255 I might just have had a couple of great dreams come true. ( I just need to Rahul to win the Great British Bake Off tonight for the treble !)
